AND TAKE THE HELMET OF SALVATION, AND THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, WHICH IS THE WORD OF GOD. EPHESIANS 6:17
What is a helmet? From the
dictionary definition, A Helmet can be defined as A hard or padded protective
hat worn by soldiers, police officers,
motorcyclists, sports players, firefighters, and others. Having known the
meaning of helmet.
What is salvation? Salvation
can be defined as the act of saving or
protecting from harm, risk, loss, destruction, etc. Another definition says it is the
state of being saved or protected from harm or risk; then if we now look at it biblically, it is deliverance from the powers
of darkness and the penalty of sin.
If we then combine the two
words together, helmet of salvation, as
it is written in the bible, it will then be defined as a supernatural means of
protection of our forehead against the attacks of the enemy.
For instance, if someone is
pointing a gun at you, the person is pointing at your forehead directly, and if
the person is a sharpshooter who doesn't misses its target, when he/she shoots
that gun, it goes at your forehead directly or, in rare cases, any part of your head, face, or your body.
That is why the bible said put on the helmet of salvation so that your head
will be protected against the arrows of the enemy.
We can see in the bible in
1Sam 17:5, when Goliath is being described, the bible said He had a bronze
helmet on his head....
What is the purpose of that
helmet to Goliath? It is to protect his head against any weapon that would be
targeted at his head. Even though he is a warrior, yet, he still put a
helmet on his head because when a weapon hits your head or your forehead, that
person will surely be wounded or affected badly or even die.
In the same 1Sam 2:38, the bible said that, So
Saul clothed David with his armour, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he
also clothed him with a coat of mail.
Why did Saul put a bronze
helmet on David's head? It was for David's head to be protected and shielded
against the weapon of Goliath, who was their enemy. Another verse is Ps 140:7. (NKJV) said, O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my
head in the day of battle.
NIV) Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, You shield my head in the day of
battle.
We can see from these
passages and these two translations that it was God who was protecting the head of
David in the days of his battles. What did God put on the head of David, or use
to shield his head? It was the spiritual helmet of salvation.
And, when one doesn't have
the helmet of salvation on the head, a lots of attacks goes inside the head,
that is why you will see somebody shouting my head, my head before they rush that person to the hospital,
the person is dead or some through their dreams they will be shouting my head,
my head or they will say that somebody hit them with something on their head or
something fall on their head, some will die immediately in their sleep or have
magrin headache for the rest of their lives. All these things are a result of having no spiritual helmet of salvation on their head.
Then the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God. The bible has said it all
here: when we read the word of God daily, it automatically becomes the sword of
God in our hands to fight the spiritual battles. When you want to go to war as
a soldier or as a warrior, you need a sword as a warrior. When you are without
a sword, you can easily be killed by your enemy or opponent. So when you read
the word of God every day, you will be able to defeat the enemy by using the
scriptures as a sword to cut the enemies asunder.
And we can see that in Rev 2:16: Therefore repent; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will
make war against them with the sword of My mouth.
So we can see that Jesus himself said he is coming with a sword
in his mouth to make war with them, “who
are them” the enemies, the opponents and the oppositions who are fighting
against your physical and spiritual upliftments and to slay them with the sword of his mouth, does it
means that Jesus is carrying sword on his mouth no, but the word of God.
In conclusion, in Hebrews 4:12 it says For the word of God is living and
active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division
of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts
and intentions of the heart.
With these little scriptures, we can see that the word of God is
indeed our spiritual sword and his
salvation our helmet.
Prayer Points:
1.
O God, put your spiritual
helmet on my head in Jesus name
2.
O Lord, as I read your word
daily, let it be your spiritual sword
in my hand to cut/scatter all the works of the enemy,
in Jesus name.
