JESUS IS THE GATE OF LIFE THAT SAVES

 

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in, go out, and find pasture. Jn 10:9 

What is a Gate? 

Oxford Dictionary defines a gate as a hinged barrier used to close an opening in a wall, fence, or hedge. 

But in the book of John, Jesus tells us that he is the gate, and whoever enters through him will be saved. That means there are some gates that one will enter, and that person will not come out alive, such as the gate of hell. 

And what is the gate of hell or the gate of Hades? It is a place of restriction for the unjust people who are dead. It is a place for the unrepentant sinner who died without giving his/her life to Christ. Whether we like it or not, there is a gate of hell. And it is a strong barrier, a great chasm that separates dead sinners or the unjust dead from entering paradise. A beautiful heavenly place. 

The time came when the beggar died, and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.  In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. Lk 16:22-23 

26 And besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ 

We can see in the book of Luke 16:23, 26 that the gate of hell, or the gate or hades, is a place of torment if one enters it, and no one can cross over to the other side, which is the heavenly place, because of the chasm or gulf.

And Jesus is giving us the assurance that whoever comes in through his own gate will be saved, and whoever goes out through that same gate will find pasture.  

Who was Jesus referring to? It is us; he wants us to enter through his gate and find eternal life. He doesn’t want us to go to the wrong gate and find torment. All He wants is for us to always pass through his gate and find pasture. What does he mean by pasture? A good life, a good living, and eternal life for our soul.  

So, we as believers need to live the life that passes through the gate of Christ and encourage others to do likewise, through our worship, our praises, and our lifestyle. So that they will not end up entering the gate of Hell or Hades but the right gate, that they might be saved and have eternal life.

1. Oh Lord, help me to go through the right gate, in Jesus' name. Amen  

2. Father, prevent me from entering through the gate of hell, in Jesus’ name. Amen
